Technical Jargon

Do you ever send an email to your IT guy and he hits back with an reply that flies completely over your head. And you are left with a…. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕!!!! ….?

Well I never want my client’s to feel that way when I tell them about their website and the technical details. ⠀⠀

You will hear words like 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 and 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 – which are important elements of your website, and they can be easily explained. But the best part is, that you as the client, don’t have to know it! 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭. ⠀⠀

As much as I want my client’s to feel they are equipped with the technical knowledge of what is happening on their website, they also need to feel comfortable that it is all handled for them. ⠀⠀

When we chat about your website needs, I ask 2 simple questions:⠀⠀

1 – Do you have a domain (www.mydomain.co.za)⠀

2 – Do you have an active site / page or active emails (name@mydomain.co.za)⠀⠀

These are simple and easy questions that give me all the info I need to help you. You don’t have to know what these are.⠀⠀

𝐎𝐤𝐚𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲?⠀⠀

Every website has these two elements: a domain name and a web server.⠀⠀

𝘼 𝙬𝙚𝙗 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙧 is a physical machine that hosts the files that make up your website. This space is the monthly hosting fee that you pay for, because your site has to live somewhere.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚 is what people type in to access your site, and it points the web browser to the server that hosts your site. It is unique and belongs to you and you alone.⠀⠀

Now if that didn’t make sense, who cares! It’s not your job to know it.. It’s mine. ⠀⠀
